RC Helicopters
are a great source of entertainment and fun for people of all age
brackets. In fact so much is the craze for these helicopters that it has
become a full blown industry by itself. Moreover, the RC Helicopters
have evolved a lot over the years and a huge variety exists today. One
has to be acquainted with some of the technicalities before venturing
out to purchase a RC Helicopter. This is because the RC helicopters
are much more than mere toys and they come with almost all the features
that a real helicopter has. So it is important to get into the basics
of the Helicopter if one wants to have a good shot at it. This is
because the RC helicopters are nothing like the RC Airplanes and are more sophisticated. Moreover, RC Helicopters have a lot of variety in terms of mechanics, colors, designs, and prices and one can find a helicopter of all scales.Primarily the RC Helicopters can be divided into two categories i.e. the electric and the gas operated or Nitro RC helicopters
and both have their share of merits and demerits. The Nitro helicopters
were the earliest to arrive on the scene and were the only ones
available for a long time. However, in the 90s, electric variant of the
RC helicopter was devised which has since become hugely popular and many
new models with unique features have been developed in both the types.
RC Helicopters
today have elaborate motion control features in their designs and
flight control is as sophisticated as the full scale helicopters such as
collective pitch control of blades and full throttle control also. Most RC helicopters
are fitted with servo motors which are motion sensing devices and a lot
of makes are fitted with Gyroscopes known as Gyros fitted on the tail
rotors which provide additional flight control.
Since the Nitro RC helicopters
operate on fuel, they naturally emit exhaust fumes which makes their
application limited as they cannot be flown indoors and without proper
ventilation. Moreover, the crash related and in flight issues are more
common in the Nitro versions. The nitro versions however, boast of
longer flying times than the electric ones but the new types of polymer
batteries have bridged that gap also to a big extent. Moreover, the
electric versions do not emit much noise and are quiet in comparison to
nitro helicopters. Also the fuelling and maintenance issues are also
prominent with the nitro helicopters as compared to electric
helicopters.
The most important factor is the price as one can get RC helicopters from 100 dollars to 3000 dollars in price range and the fact is that moderately priced RC helicopters are just as much fun as costly versions so make your choice carefully after going through all aspects.
